Pioneering Integration for In-Orbit Maintenance and Refueling
GarudSat
The vehicle will be a state-of-the-art spacecraft designed to refuel satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) to anywhere in cislunar space.
It will utilize advanced docking mechanisms and fuel transfer technologies to extend the operational life of satellites, providing a significant advancement in the Indian space ecosystem.
The SRMV (Satellite Refueling and Maintenance Vehicle) will be engineered for seamless integration with a variety of satellite types and mission profiles.

Refueling Pod Design
Equipped to hold a single or multiple tanks for carrying different fuel types based on mission requirements. Payload design will be able to fuel mono or bi-propellant vehicles. Modular design enables swapping of fueling payloads to accommodate various mission needs.
Refueling Payload
Developed within India, this system will enable safe and precise fuel transfer to satellites in orbit.
In-orbit Refueling Mechanism
A cutting-edge fuel delivery system capable of transferring different types of propellants to satellite propulsion systems.
Docking and Navigation
Utilizing a Bus design from our partners with advanced technology for accurate and efficient satellite docking.
The vehicle will serve as a critical enabler of longer-duration missions and will set a precedent for India’s leadership in space technology and sustainability.
Maintenance Pod Design Overview
Payload Key Features
Equipped to hold a single or dual arm for maintenance operations based on mission requirements. Modular design enables swapping of fueling payloads to accommodate various mission needs.

Bus Design Features

The GarudSat system supports operations in LEO, MEO, GEO, and Cislunar orbits, with a payload capacity of up to 300 kg. It offers a Delta-V of 500 m/s for 300 kg payloads, 700 m/s for 200 kg, and 900 m/s for 100 kg.
Propulsion is powered by 8 Saiph thrusters (26 N each), delivering a total thrust of 208 N, using nitrous oxide and ethane as propellants. Attitude control includes 4 reaction wheels and 16 cold-gas thrusters, achieving a pointing accuracy of <10 arcseconds.
The system provides up to 500W power (28V unregulated) and supports RS-422 and Ethernet for data, with X-band (4 Mbps down) and S-band (400 kbps up) communications. Designed for reliability, all subsystems are single fault tolerant.
Robotic Arms and Manipulators
Precision Robotic Arm(s)
- High-precision 7 DOF robotic arm for connecting with satellite fill and drain valves, especially valuable for satellites with limited access points.
End-Effectors
- Industry standardized refueling end-effector system designed for both mono or bi propellant systems.
Extended Reach
- Allows the arm to work from a safe distance, providing additional separation to reduce risks during operations.
Proximity Sensors
- Visual sensors and or LIDAR / RADAR for precise positioning and collision avoidance.
